Chapter 5: Lit, page 94.

So basically, “We’re pretty, so we’re right.” That’s what you’re literally planning. That’s it.

I’d probably be pretty amused, if that didn’t actually work on a regular basis.

    1. I don’t think it matters. It’s supposed to be a private meeting of two Doves, any interruption would likely be egregious.

      1. Yeah, me too.

Tuxedo Girl is a spy for Reclamation and she’s about to let in the overalled, welding-masked rabble! Pastels for all! Aquaponics unite!

Where’s Numbers when you need her?

        1. Cook Family. She could be a Cook agent. When was the last time we heard about them? I imagine both Cook and Reclaimaton have sympathy with the working and servant classes.

Although for some reason I get the feeling Rec skews richer and more educated, all those lawyers….

          1. I don’t know if the Cooks have sympathy for anyone. Though I could be wrong.

I was half convinced that they were working for the Doves against Reclamation, but it wouldn’t appear that these two have any knowledge of them whatsoever.

          2. My impression was that the Cooks are pretty much pure anarchists, that they disrupted the Reclamation rally because it was there, a target of opportunity.

          3. Well the real question is, who is tap ap tapping at that door and why does it annoy miss butler so much?

Oh god, could it be Nicki Collision? Is Nicki Oprha’s son and she’s paying for the show?

            That would be so delicous.

  1. Yeah, all too often that’s all it takes; Darwin would laugh.

Also the coloring makes it look like part of Zebulon’s leg is missing, I went back a few panels to see if this really was the case I was so confused.

    1. Oh good, I wasn’t the only one XD. Also, is it me, or does his body look a tad short in proportion to his head? Might just be a perspective thing, but it really seems off to me.

  2. I really want to pick a side to root for, but I don’t know which side to pick. Proof the “we’re pretty” law is already working!

Lots of updates lately! Excellent work, as usual! Keep it up, Spike :)

    1. You know better by now that there are black and whites sides here in Templar. It’s more like vampires vs werewolves.

    2. Well her last comment shows that even Orpha knows that Barney Johns has a point. I wonder if she would be so opposed to him if he was good looking?

  3. They’re basically going to militarize the Templar version of the Decadents a la Oscar Wilde. I don’t agree, but I approve- you have to admire the sheer brass-balled audacity.

  4. I guess the question as to whether this plan will work boils down to that critical question you can ask of any first-world social group, from clique to electorate: what percentage of the target audience is still mentally living in high school?

Although Orpha’s pet queen bees trying to rile up the public against tacky poor people ruining everything but getting a face full of Cook instead would bring things nicely full-circle, wouldn’t it?

  5. “In short, we should get our way because we’re powerful and smart enough to distract people from the truth by throwing bright shiny objects in front of them, if for no other reason that to get what we want when we want it.”

In other words, modern politics. Watching Orpha makes me want to throw up.

    1. Not modern. That tactic was in use att least as far back as Greek democracy which was pretty much based on the idea that the smoothest talker wins.

      1. Phryne was aquitted on charges of being a whore by the Hellenic court by her lawyer taking off her robe saying. ” seriously look at her.”

        She won.

  6. “What do we know of hearts?”
    “That I haven’t one.”
Really, Zeb may well replace Regan as my favorite character.
And I’m betting that it’sthe lawyerlady from Reclamation on the other side.

  7. I think Orpha is missing one point about Barnabas John. Even if Reclamation crumbles from under him, I have the feeling he’d just grab his tools and get about the business of doing it all himself anyways.
