  1. Jakes…Christians? Seems like a bit of a stretch…

Then again, this world clearly has quite a few differences from our own so maybe “Christianity” means something quite different there xD

    1. As long as you believe in Jesus Christ as the son of God, you are technically a Christian. It is ultimately a belief in his divinity, though really, it should be about teachings.

    2. People have pretty strange beliefs in our own world. The Jakes would fit right in here, and they could somehow, antithetically, fit Jesus into all of it. Unfortunately, I don’t think they would be so alien.

  2. Ray is…interestingly sheltered if she doesn’t have a guess at what Ben means. Either that, or interestingly multicultural.

  3. I can totally believe that the Jakes pass themselves off as basically Christian, or at least don’t correct people when they make that assumption. I don’t want to offend anyone by giving specific names, but there are a number of sects that are nominally Christian despite having beliefs that are fairly divergent from mainstream Christianity.

      1. Well, when one stockpiles enough automatic weapons to outfit the Chinese Red Army, somebody’s gonna get nervous. When you talk about fundamentalists of nearly every stripe, one thing they all have in common is that they’re all about making martyrs of other people, usually without their consent…or knowledge.

      1. Different kind of fundamentalists. THOSE fundies want to turn polygamy and pedophilia into an art form.

BTW, check out what’s happening to Warren Jeff’s little garden spot in Utah. There’s a group of fundamentalists up there that are literally dying out because they’ve been inter-breeding for so long, an extremely rare birth defect has turned the group into a bunch of freaks. One of the doctors (from outside) who examined them said that in the rest of the world, there’s MAYBE thirty cases worldwide, but in that group, there’s over FIVE HUNDRED cases SO FAR.

When God sends you a message this big that you’re misrepresenting Him, maybe it’s time to listen.

        1. And not all Mormons associate with those crazy fucks in Utah. Most of the ones I know are just unreasonably religious.

        2. Well, the mormons consider themselves christians, but most traditional sects of christianity wouldn’t accept them as such.

For one thing, they don’t accept the divinity of Jesus. Also, there are some serious questions concerning whether they’re really monotheistic. But then many of the early forms of christianity had the same features, so all you can really say is that they don’t comply with the Nicene creed. Whether that’s important or not is a matter of personal opinion.
