I don’t think it’s a carpet, I think it’s a concrete floor. Possibly tiled.
Possibly GROSS.
In the printed book for Chapter 2 (my copy anyway), pages 111-118 are bound in flipped over and backwards.
Briefly I thought it could be intentional … “Ah, she’s making us read upside-down!”
I like how the basement apartments are “kinda crummy” compared to the rest of the building, which includes Ben’s apartment… with the door that doesn’t lock.
