ferretball was one of those SA posters that everybody knew was crazy. The man was not just internet nuts, but actually full-on autistic, and the mods didn't ban him because god knows what kind of insane crap he'll post tomorrow. An actual list of amazing shit he posted would go on for pages, but would have to include his posts about "self-repairing nano-armor", his movie script about "the Hindu god of shit and feces", his ability to detect if a woman is a muslim by her smell, and lots more.

Wow, really? I didn't realize he had any excuse for being the travesty that he was.
Anyway, I think ferretball--and the community's reaction to him--actually answer the "Why do people post on SA?" question quite nicely: The Awful Forums are (primarily) populated by especially smart and mean folks. So when somebody shows up who's not so smart, or is maybe kinda naive about the Internet, or is bugfuck crazy, or is a complete asshole . . . the community at large has the will, the tools, and the freedom to correct the everloving crap out of this person. It can be absolutely glorious to behold.
That said, I haven't spent any real time on the Awful Forums for years. I mean, I remember rolling my eyes at all the newbs who registered in 2003 or 2004. (No, SERIOUSLY.) So, yeah, it's probably changed a lot.

Now, I know product placement is far from new, but what really gets me is that the bassist in the show is left-handed; from what I can gather, demand among this retarded demographic for left-handed fenders is outstripping demand for right-handed ones.
When I was deep in the Beatles fandom there were plenty of right-handed people that tried to play the bass left handed because that's how Paul McCartney did it.

Broken creatures like ferretball aside, people eventually either learn the shape of goon culture and fit in, or they decide they leave the forums forever. Accoording to Canned Dogs, Amazon is selling a left-handed, 3 color sunburst Fender Precision bass on their site, which is exactly the same as the one Mio-chan uses in the anime. This might have nothing to do with the anime, but in the “Customers who bought this item also bought” section are filled with other K-On! merchandise. The single customer review states:
“This is the same model that the bassist Mio-chan uses in K-on. I’m right handed, but I bought the left handed version as it probably wouldn’t make a difference since I’m a complete beginner. I’m now trying to learn how to play the opening song. It’s probably not a waste of money to buy this if you’re a fan!”
