Now I’m curious–Gene’s been portrayed as a guy who’s really into playing music. Does he really not play at their concerts?
I think he’s telling Sunny “don’t even play” as in “don’t even pretend to disagree”. That said, the revelation that Gene does his prophecy-trance thing onstage (assuming that’s what “eyes rolling in back of his head” means)… kind of raises a lot of questions! Hmmm.
I don’t think he’s saying Gene doesn’t play. You’re seeing “[Gene] Don’t even play. Eyes rollin… etc”
But consider the last page (Like you ever gave a fuck about Gene!) and the first line of the response. I’m seeing. “And you don’t neither! Don’t even play.”
Wow! Like this wasn’t crazy and complicated to begin with. I see Bo having 2 character flaws (aside from being a disgusting toad). 1) He thinks he’s smarter than he really is. 2) He is just smart enough to get himself into trouble. That simple plan could go wrong in so many ways. Of course, it just might work and give everyone a lifeline, but somehow I don’t think it’s going to be that easy.

Ah. As in “don’t even pretend that you don’t”.
“don’t even pretend that you do”, rather
Precisely.
